How to care for your enamel jewelry

  • Keep it clean. To avoid potential damage from cleaners or abrasives use to lukewarm water, a soft cloth, and something gentle such as hand soap or Dawn dishwashing soap (Dawn is good for removing grease).
  • In the event the setting has tarnished, the most gentle way (especially if there are beads) is to use Dawn dish soap and a soft toothbrush.
  • If there is still built up dirt, make a mixture with soap and some baking soda.
  • And, if it’s still tarnished use vinegar and baking soda (only as a last resort)
  • Avoid lotions and perfumes because they will also tarnish the jewelry quicker.
  • Keep your jewelry in safe locations. Because enamel is glass, it can crack if dropped onto a hard surface. An example would be to storing it in a soft lined jewelry box or in a fabric pouch will help keep it safe from accidental drops with moisture reducing packets. No matter what, silver will oxidize. It’s a matter of minimizing it.
