Fly free, soar high, let this bird on a wire pendant remind you of lightness and freedom. Pure .999 silver surrounds a vibrant blue enameled bird sitting on a branch created using the Champlevé style of enameling.
Champlevé is an enameling technique in the decorative arts, or an object made by that process, in which troughs or cells are carved, etched, die struck, or cast into the surface of a metal object, and filled with vitreous enamel.
Hummingbirds can symbolize the enjoyment of life and lightness of being. You are invited to enjoy the sweetness of life, lift up negativity wherever it creeps in and express love more fully in your daily endeavors. This fascinating bird is capable of the most amazing feats despite its small size, such as traveling great distances or being able to fly backwards. Be encouraged to develop your adaptability and resiliency while keeping a playful and optimistic outlook.
I designed this pendant using Photoshop and the Silhouette Cameo software. The design was cut into FYI Pure Silver Clay. My work is then embellished, filed, sanded, and refined. Once they are to my liking, I fire it in my kiln where the clay binder burns off and the pure silver metal is left. From there I polish and patina them for effect.
I then laid down the enamel colors. First, several layers of base enamel are fused to the pendant. From there vibrant enamel is painted onto the base and fired in my kiln at 1450 degrees Fahrenheit. This process is repeated several times until the desired effect is achieved.
The piece dangles 1″ x 1.25″ from a 20″ sterling silver snake chain.
